Oxford-Greene baseball debuts new merger with shutout victory over B-G

OXFORD— The Oxford-Greene baseball team debuted its new merger as O-G, sporting new black and red uniforms, took the field at Oxford High School against Bainbridge-Guilford.

O-G looked sharp as they picked up their first win as a combined team in a 5-0 shutout. Nic Dodzweit and Cooper Davis also worked a combined one-hitter in the victory.

After two scoreless innings, Oxford-Greene got on the board in the bottom of the third inning as Dodzweit had an RBI single and Cooper Davis with a groundout RBI.

O-G added on in the bottom of the fifth as Dodzweit did it again with another RBI single.

A run was also scored on a passed ball and on an error.

O-G scored five runs on five hits as Dodzweit led the team with two hits and two RBIs.

Eddie Ingraham, Trent Drew, and Jackson Roth (2B) also picked up hits in the win.

Blake Barrows reached base on three walks while Cooper Flanagan walked twice.

Nic Dodzweit worked four strong innings, allowing one hit, five walks, and struck out eight batters.

He was pulled in the top of the fifth inning and left with the bases-loaded from three straight walks.

Cooper Davis likely said, ‘No worries, I got you’ as he got out of the jam with a strikeout, a fielder’s choice, and a fly out. Davis pitched three clean innings in relief with five strikeouts.

B-G’s Anthony Cafasso had the team’s lone hit with a single in the fourth inning.

Parker Buttice, Connor Davy, Aidan Haynes, Micah Casey, and Isaiah Hampton all reached base on walks.

Buttice had a chance to score but was out at the plate.

Mason Acquisto got the start for the Bobcats and went three innings, allowing two earned runs on two hits, four walks, and struck out four batters.

Aidan Haynes worked an inning and two-third in relief, allowing three runs (two earned) on two hits, two walks, and had one strikeout.

Anthony Cafasso finished the game with going an inning and a third, only allowing a hit and struck out three batters.

Oxford-Greene (1-0) heads to Sus Valley on Saturday at 7 p.m. under the lights while B-G (2-1) is right back in action today at Delhi at 4:30 p.m.
