BAINBRIDGE – After being forced to close rides on Saturday due to the weather, the carnival at the General Clinton Canoe Regatta was able to open its midway on Sunday. The busiest attractions included the ferris wheel, super slide, and swings. Hundreds of people gathered at the park to celebrate Memorial Day weekend in addition to the 70-mile Canoe Regatta.

On Sunday, May 25, the rain took a pause throughout the afternoon until the fireworks went off, allowing the public to enjoy a fun day and night at the carnival. Ticket and food lines, while at times were long, went quickly as excited children raced toward their favorite rides. While the hot air balloon rides and glow event still had to be cancelled, there was plenty for people to do and show up for.

For dinner, a popular station was the chicken tenders and fries booth, one combo ran you $15. After dinner enjoying a funnel cake and classic fresh squeezed lemonade cost $16 together, so for around $30 you could enjoy to treat yourself with deliciously fried fair foods. A wristband to ride all of the rides cost $35 and for those with kids, seemed well worth it. At the super slide you could witness children going up and down several times in a row having the night of their lives.

Aside from the carnival activities, the Canoe Regatta itself had a wide range of viewers. This year for the first time it was live streamed with two hosts, Betsy Ray from Paddle Daily, and Olympian paddler Terry Kent, garnering almost 5,000 views on Youtube. They conducted pre-race interviews, mid-race commentary, checkpoint talks, and post-race interviews with the winners. The night concluded with celebratory fireworks around 10 p.m. as it has for years. Spectators gathered by the riverside at the park to watch the show. Then the typical parking lot madness ensued as everyone was ready to go home after a long day of festivities.
