Afton softball advances with a big victory over South Kortright/Andes

AFTON— After a strong regular season, the Afton Crimson Knights softball team earned the top seed in the 2026 Section IV, Class D tournament , where the Crimson Knights hosted the quarterfinals game. Afton faced and defeated South Kortright/Andes 10-1 on Tuesday.
After a 1,2,3 inning by Jenna Wilson and the Crimson Knights defense, Afton got to work and started off hot offensively with three runs in the bottom of the first. Makenna Schultz led the inning off with a single to right and advanced to second on a bunt by Wilson, who made it safely. Both ladies stole a base, which put them in scoring position for Adleigh Noone, who drove them in on a long single to center. Noone came in to score on a single by Miranda Schultz.
In the top of the second, Makenna Schultz made a terrific play at center, when she caught the out and threw back to first to get the double play and Wilson struck out the batter to end the inning.
McKenna also doubled to extend Afton’s lead in the bottom half of the inning as well. She came in to score on Noone’s RBI single along with Wilson, who drew a walk.
Emilie Hopkins made it 7-0 Crimson Knights with a single to center to drive in Noone.
South Kortright/Andes loaded the bases quickly off Wilson and the Crimson Knights on a back-to-back singles and a walk with no outs. One run came home on a single before McKenna Schultz threw the ball in to second base, where Rylee Rupakus threw to home for Megan Racine to get the runner out at the plate.
In the bottom of the sixth, Afton’s Hopkins drove in a run on a double, Miranda Schultz brought a run home on a fielder’s choice, and Rupakus had a two-out RBI single.
Wilson had a 1,2,3 top of the seventh inning with a groundout, a line out to Rupakus, and a strikeout to seal the victory. She allowed one earned run on three hits, three walks, and struck out seven batters in the win.
Afton hosts Edmeston/Morris on Thursday at 5 p.m.
