David L. Swertfager, age 69, passed away early Thursday evening April 9, 2026, at his home in Dansville. David and his family moved to Dansville in 1992, where he began working at Foster Wheeler until their closing. He went on to work at Caldwell Manufacturing and eventually ended his career in Mechanical Engineering at Pfaudler Manufacturing in Rochester
He was born in Norwich, NY, on July 19, 1956, son of the late Leland and Shirley (Thorpe) Swertfager. On June 28, 1986, he married Penny Ashton who survives. Surviving in addition to his wife Penny, is a son Eric Swertfager, a sister Sue Lipinoga, a brother John (Nancy) Swertfager and several nieces and nephews.
Dave was an avid history buff with specific interest in Civil War and WWII. He was a master Trivial Pursuit player with family and friends. You always wanted Dave on your team because you would win. He had a broad catalogue of music he enjoyed listening to. In his younger years he was a fantastic street and ice hockey player. He also enjoyed animals and was a supporter of the SPCA.
Memorial calling hours will be held Saturday April 18 from 11:00 a.m. to noon at the RJ Fahy Funeral Home, 116 North Broad St., in Norwich, NY, where a memorial service will be held at the completion of calling hours.
In lieu of flowers please make memorials to your local SPCA in honor of Dave.
