Richard G. Cummings

Richard G. Cummings, age 76, passed away peacefully at his home on October 9, 2026, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous 10-month battle with cancer.
Born on November 25, 1949, in Washington, D.C., Rick spent most of his life in Norwich. His early years also brought him to several southern states, including Virginia, Maryland, Georgia, and North Carolina.
Rick will be remembered for his lifelong passion for cars and anything with a motor. He could recall every car he had ever owned and took great pride in keeping his shop spotless and well cared for, even in his final days. When he paused to relax, Rick enjoyed the company of his beloved parrots, Dillon and Cuddles and mowing his acres of lawn. A self-taught cook, he was known for preparing a memorable ham dinner and had a discerning palate, particularly when it came to Italian food.
Over the years, Rick was known as a jack-of-all-trades, working at various jobs throughout central NY. After retiring from a 20+ year employment at NES Rentals he decided retirement was not in the cards so he continued his employment with Chenango Welding Supply, (most recently Airgas) for 17 years.
Rick leaves behind the love of his life of 40 years, Joanne Prosser; his son, Shawn Cummings (Yvonne); grandchildren Brittany, Kristen, Shaylah, Shawn Jr., Brianna, and Shaylynn; his Aunt Patty Sutton; sister Dawn (Greg) Mitchinson; sister-in-law Sherri (Dale) Mudge; brother-in-law Billy Laden and brother-in-law Frank Laden (Katie); along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Rick was preceded in death by his daughter, Tammy; son, Richie; and parents Bud and Joyce Post.
Calling hours followed by a short service will be held at RJ Fahy’s Funeral Home, 116 North Broad Street Norwich, NY, on Saturday October 17, 2026 from 11 a.m. to 1p.m. Burial will follow at St. Paul’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, kindly consider donating to Chenango County Hospice, as they were invaluable during this time, or the American Cancer Society.
