Norwich jazz band presents final show of season

NORWICH - George Miller, 67 of Sherburne, said he absolutely loves jazz.
“It used to be my way of relaxing,” he said. “Sometimes my wife and I would even go jazz dancing. It’s wonderful music.”
So when he heard that Norwich High School had a jazz band, he became extremely interested.
“I enjoy listening to it whenever I can,” he said. “They played at the Pageant of the Bands and they won first place. They are really good.”
The band, members say, will be proudly playing in their last performance of the year for the community members who love to support them from 7 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the American Legion.
“We do a lot of concerts throughout the year in a variety of settings,” band director Donald Burke said. “This is just an end of the year concert that we do to just get together and play some music in a casual atmosphere.”
Senior band members Cody Duell and Gregory Webb say they are excited to play for those who enjoy listening to good music.
“We’re one of the better jazz bands. We know how to play,” said Webb, who plays the electric guitar. “We received a perfect score at the Pageant of the Bands, which has only happened one other time four years ago by Norwich. We play good music, we have fun, and I am looking forward to playing for an hour and have people enjoy it.”
