Planning Dept. busy with NYRI opposition
NORWICH – The county’s planning and development personnel are spending 95 percent of their working days gathering and disseminating information and coordinating various gatherings in the fight against New York Regional Interconnect’s 200-mile long line, 1,200-megawatt direct current transmission line.
Department Director Donna M. Jones on Tuesday gave members of the Chenango County Planning Board several hefty handouts, including NYRI’s Article VII application to the Public Services Commission, eminent domain procedures, and correspondence from the Upper Delaware Preservation Coalition. She said she had been in constant contact with grassroots organizations and individuals as well as local and state legislators.
“I’ve heard that New York State Senator Hillary Clinton’s office has said the senator is not ready to make a formal statement yet,” Jones said. “We are all anxiously awaiting her to take a stand on the issue one way or another.”
