Donna Frech dancers let imaginations soar this weekend
NORWICH - “Limitations live only in our minds. But if we use our imaginations, our possibilities become limitless.” Donna Frech holds this quote from pro cyclist Jamie Paolinetti to be the mantra of her dance school’s 31st Dance Recital this weekend, titled “Imagination: Let it Soar!”
A melding of heart-warming youngsters and professional-minded dancers, Frech proclaims “Imagination” is the year-end production of the hard work, determination, enthusiasm and commitment given by all her dancers at all levels; and she guarantees it will be a dynamic performance, gracing that of a professional touring company.
“The level these girls achieve through their training is phenomenal,” she said. “It’s more than just a recital. The way we gear the show and present the show, it’s electrifying.”
The recital contains two acts, both abound with seamless transitions and various blends of traditional tap, ballet, jazz, acrobatic, lyrical, hip-hop and modern dance, all providing a non-stop, limitless experience that the show hopes to create.
“Each year the students get better and better,” Frech said, adding that her instructors bring a host of different perspectives that enables continued diversity and creativity within the show. “It creates variety, and our show stands out because that variety makes it interesting and entertaining.”
Not be outdone, her younger students in the matinee shows (sometimes in their first dance recital) have so much fun that they appear to have the time of their lives, with just a little less emphasis on the razor-sharp choreography. Even after 31 years of experience, Frech only smiles, “they get cuter and cuter.”
From first-timers to award-winners, The Donna Frech School of Dance will bring together a range of styles and talent into a wonderful mix of the performing arts during “Imagination: Let it Soar.” She believes each audience member will leave saying, “Wow! That wasn’t anything like I expected!”
Frech would like to thank all the volunteers, parents, staff, and student who work so hard and give so much time each year to make sure the recital is a success. She also wished to take this opportunity to warmly welcome in the families from Sidney who are now a part of the Donna Frech School of Dance family: “We want to let the Sidney area know that we appreciate your support and plan on growing with you in the years to come.”
Show dates and times will be this Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. (older students), in the Norwich High School Auditorium. The matinee shows will be this Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. (younger students), also in the auditorium. Tickets can be purchased in advance at First Edition Book Store in Norwich, Service Pharmacy in New Berlin and Sherburne, Bartle’s Pharmacy in Oxford, and at Video Entertainment Plus in Sidney, or at the door before each performance.
