EARLVILLE – An old-fashioned atmosphere wrought by old-fashioned ideals; it is both motif and mantra at Carol Morse’s new Village of Earlville gift shop befittingly dubbed, “The Gate.”
“I would just like it to be a place where people can come and relax, and enjoy walking around,” Morse said. “I love little shops; that’s why I wanted to do this.”
Perusing past the garden gate that stands centered in the store, one will see a space filled with items that seem to grow from the walls, suitable to all times, all styles, and all needs.
Unique garden items, collectibles, candles, baskets, holiday items, intricate accessories, quick gifts and the newest lines of Lang gift and stacker boxes mark just a fraction of an ever-changing inventory geared toward the trends of the old and new.
“I think there was a need for this type of shop in Earlville,” she said. “The community is looking forward to being able to come here and not have to go to the mall.”
“The Gate” is located in downtown Earlville on North Main Street next to Corey’s Real Estate and across from the Library. The shop will be opening Tuesday, July 25, and store hours will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, with extended hours until 8 p.m. on Thursdays.
Morse and her husband Michael have spent months remodeling; stripping the walls down to the original brick and furnishing the store with pieces of traditional Earlville, including the front of the old General Garage which was once situated next to the NBT on Route 12B.
Morse said she hopes that men will not be intimidated by the idea of shopping in a store such as hers, especially when she believes her selection will have a lot to offer their tastes as well as womens’.
“We’ll have new things coming in all the time,” she said. “And we can get people ready for any of their special holidays.”
