DA said today’s statutory rape trial not CSI

NORWICH – District Attorney Joseph A. McBride told a group of prospective jurors Monday that they would not be listening to a complex argument this week.

“This is not CSI,” the DA said. “We don’t have any DNA. We don’t have any scientific evidence or any of that which is on Thursday night at 9 p.m.” McBride called the statutory rape charges against Gary J. Button Jr. and the proof against him, “a simple case.”

Button, 40, formerly of 190 state Route 320 in Norwich, spent the first day of his trial silently at the defense table. The Norwich man faces three charges that stem from the allegation that he had sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old girl during July of 2005.
