SIDNEY – Oxford’s eight-year drought against Sidney ended Thursday night in a stunning victory over the traditionally-strong Warriors.
“It’s our first win in my seven years here,” said Oxford coach Tim Paden. “We had a really strong first half and controlled the tempo of play. I think this win will be an eye-opener to some people.”
Arik Nisbet tucked away the first of his two goals just 8 1/2 minutes into the game following a deflection in the penalty box. Cory Seiler then gathered a pass from older brother Scott to make it 2-0 with 1:37 left in the first half.
Nisbet scored the eventual game-winner bending in a long-range shot from 35 yards out into the upper far post early in the second half. “I think we fell prone to fatigue and some nagging injuries in the second half,” Paden said, who had just 13 players suited. “Sidney fought back hard and pressured us the last 15 minutes.”

DELHI – Avery Meehan scored just 1:49 into play for Delhi, and added a second goal 20 minutes later in the Bulldogs’ triumph over UV Thursday.
Eddie Reed and Kyle Capiello added second-half insurance tallies, and Cam Wentz made 10 saves.
UV is at Oxford next Thursday.

“Our effort to the ball wasn’t as good as I would have liked, but otherwise it was a pretty even game,” said G-MU coach Mark Luettger.

Girls’ Soccer

BAINBRIDGE – B-G gained enough of an advantage before the injury bug struck to hold on for a one-goal victory over Sidney Thursday.
Already missing starting midfielder Sam Spalholz, who was out with a knee injury, key veterans Megan Ives and Jennifer Patten suffered game-ending ankle sprains. Ives left in the first half, while Patten’s day ended early in the second half. Patten, however, provided a two-goal cushion scoring just 3:07 into play, and then with 14:34 remaining in the opening 40 minutes.
“We were connecting pretty well and making good passes in the first half,” said B-G coach George Williams. “It was tough in the second half and Sidney was all over us, but the defense played well.”
Anna Feltham made eight saves for B-G (2-1).

COPES CORNERS – CV-Springfield kept the pressure in G-MU’s defensive zone most of the contest in a shutout victory at the Raiders’ home tournament Thursday.
Kim Daley scored with 30:59 expired in the first half for the Patriots, and Maggie Milner added an insurance goal in the second half. “We really were untested and without even a scrimmage before this game,” said G-MU coach Tim Diters. “We’re trying to find our balance, but it was a good showing for the girls.”
G-MU (0-1) hosts Morris today.

NORWICH – Maine-Endwell’s Emily Eichorn and Sandra Romano finished with six kills apiece leading their club to a tight three-game win over Norwich Thursday, 25-18, 25-23, 25-22.
Mandy Ingraham led Norwich with seven kills and Kerzia Hopson picked up 13 assists. “It was tight all the way to the end of every game, we just had trouble finishing them off,” said Norwich coach Paul Sims.
Norwich (0-2) hosts Owego Tuesday.

The Tornado earned a pair of victories in doubles with Stephanie Stewart and Kyra Collier teaming in first doubles, while seventh-graders Bryn Loomis and Sophie Stewart captured a straight sets win in their first-ever varsity match.
Norwich hosts Chenango Forks today.
