Pen pal project takes flight during Colorscape
NORWICH – What started out as a small heartfelt gesture may turn into a community-wide, even nation-wide effort.
Just one year ago children from the community participated at Colorscape to make cards for the children affected by last year’s deadly hurricanes. The cards were distributed to children living off the Gulf Coast.
At the time when the cards were given, children were all gathered on a ship. The ship was their new home and would remain that way for some time.
The Junior Chamber of Commerce (Jaycees) provided children attending Colorscape last year with the materials needed to make cards for the other children in their time of need.
Jaycees’ Karen Sullivan got together with Dr. Sara Long, a surgeon for the National Association of Chiefs of Police, and decided Long would take the cards to the ship. Long agreed and during one of her many travels to the Gulf Coast last year, she took the cards to the ship.
