Colorscape draws out the best of Chenango

NORWICH – The 12th annual Colorscape Chenango festival came to a close Sunday evening with a heartfelt thank you from its orchestraters. The two-day event was a hit despite many worries about worsening economic hardships and a brief but threatening downpour Saturday – “It’s a success as ever and the music is the best it has ever been,” said Festival Director Peggy Finnegan.

The music of Colorscape was an impressive display. Nearly at all times a crowd of 100 or more sat before the NBT Main Stage, attentive to the audio delights of the performing artists. “I am totally pleased,” said Ken Millett, the festival’s music director. “This is a free event and with music of this quality, it’s an investment worth making.” Finnegan too praised the performing musicians and Millett for delivering a performance that help made this year’s festival a success.

For three years, artisan Angelique Bakalyar and her husband David Hayle from Oxford have brought their unique tastes and art to Colorscape. Using their artistic gifts, the couple designed and created their vendor booth with Romanesque pillars made from plaster. “We had been working on it since May,” said Bakalyar. Hayle worked hands-on during the festival with plaster, and like many other artisans displayed his craft firsthand to fascinated crowds. “It’s a nice festival, so easy going and good music,” said Hayle.
