Oxford Tournament
Marathon 2, Greene 1 (OT)
Oxford 7, Whitesboro 1
OXFORD – Missed scored opportunities, in large part due to stellar goaltending and defense by Marathon, allowed the Olympians to stretch the finals of the Oxford Blackhawks Tournament to seven-versus-seven overtime.
In that format, Trojans coach Sue Carlin conceded it was more to the tourney champions' benefit. “They have a lot of talented kids,” Carlin said. “We had a lot of chances in their defensive end and we played extremely well. I think we frustrated them and we executed our game plan perfectly other than putting the ball in the goal.”
Marathon's Hannah Griep ended overtime play just 1:01 into the extra period putting the ball away on a fast break. The Olympians gained possession after a turnover and soon had the Trojans in a three-on-one situation. “We got caught in transition big time,” Carlin said of the final play. “A team as good as Marathon, you can't make those kinds of mistakes.”
Greene accumulated more shots and penalty corners than Marathon and led 1-0 after one half. Megan Boeltz's long hit from outside the penalty circle was deflected into the cage by Holly Davis at the 11-minute mark.
Marathon's Stephanie Fisher evened the count 7:17 into the second half.
Oxford rolled to a 7-1 victory in the consolation game – the third time this season the Blackhawks have had at least 20 shots.
Christi Baker scored twice in each half for four goals, while Tori Lints, Jessica Martin, and Vanessa Pierson had tallies.

Hamilton Optimist Tournament
Norwich 1, Hamilton 0 (Finals)
HAMILTON – Norwich coach Scottie Decker has been with the soccer program since its inception 20 years ago, and in her recollection, Saturday’s achievement at Hamilton was a first.
“I know this is the first time we have won a tournament,” she said. “The girls were just thrilled, and was more thrilling is that we did this as a team.”
Norwich broke through the Hamilton defense scoring in the first half. Cassidy Griffin sent a cross from the left side to Carly Law, who found the back of the net. Amy Clemens had 10 saves in goal for the team’s first shutout.
“We haven’t done well in some games staying with our marks, but we did that really well in this game,” Decker said. “I thought we would start to become competitive by miseason, and right now the girls are playing with a lot of heart.”
Norwich’s Elisha Eddy was named the tourney’s defensive MVP, while Clemens, Jaimie Sanita, and Chelsea Leibundgut were all-tournament team picks.

Greene wins MAC Preseason Relay Championships
DELHI – Greene’s forward strides in its swimming program turned to leaps with the school’s first MAC Preseason Relays title Friday night.
A year removed from a 16-point runner-up finish to Delhi, Greene won seven of 10 events to top the Bulldogs by 16 points. To celebrate the victory, the Trojans tossed six-year head coach Mike Platta into the pool. “When they threw me into the pool, it was probably the best bath I’ve taken in my lifetime,” an elated Platta said. “It was a phenomenal feeling, and it’s the same way we felt when we beat Delhi for the first time.”
Greene secured its victory with a number of close victories. Platta said that three of the seven firsts came by a combined 1.61 seconds. “We just brought our game faces tonight and we’ve talked about being in the zone when the races start,” he said. “Tonight that type of focus paid off.”
