Norwich field band takes 2nd in opener
NORWICH – In its first competition of the season Saturday, Norwich High School’s Field Band took second in the small school division one class.
The Baldwinsville Fantasy of Sound show was one of two competitions that took place Saturday in the Syracuse area.
Westmoreland was the lone entry in the third division and finished with a score of 66. In the large school division, third place was won by East Ramapo with 68.75, second went to Horseheads with 74.25 and first place went to Central Square earning 74.75.
In the small school division one classification, East Syracuse-Minoa earned fourth place with a 75.8, third place was won by East Irondequoit with 76.15, Norwich brought home second place earning 76.80 and first place was won by Jordan Elbridge, earning 77.85.
The other show had many bands competing as well. The small school division one included Medina, Victor and Phoenix.
The scores for both shows, although separate, were all extremely close. Six out of seven bands finished only two points away from one another.
This show was the first time the students from Norwich High School competed this season. Director Don Burke said the students held their pose and gave an excellent performance.
“They really showed spirit throughout their performance,” said Burke.
Burke also says he is happy with how the musicians are doing and the competitions are looking really good for the season.
The band will next compete at 5:30 p.m., Saturday at the Oswego High School. The show is called Pageant of Champions. Norwich will be competing with schools including Jordan Elbridge and Phoenix. For more information about upcoming shows contact the music department at 334-1600 ext. 1163.
