SHERBURNE – Sherburne-Earlville scored four goals within a four-minute span in the final 10 minutes of its shutout victory over Hamilton Monday.

Karli Harris scored the first of her two goals deflecting a Courtney Kurtz pass into the cage just five minutes into the second half. The contest remained a one-goal difference until Kurtz started a four-goal barrage at the 9:48 mark and ended at 5:56.

“I was telling the girls that the one-goal lead wasn’t enough,” said S-E coach Sheila Cooman in recounting a second-half timeout. “Anything can happen in field hockey, and Hamilton has a fast team. All they needed to do was sneak by one time.”

Samantha Crandall and Amanda Morgan added S-E goals, who improved to 3-1-1 overall. The Marauders host Morrisville-Eaton Wednesday.

Delhi 3, Oxford 2

OXFORD – Delhi remained the top dog – and unbeaten in the Midstate Athletic Conference – topping Oxford Monday afternoon.

Avery Meehan dashed the Blackhawks’ hopes at a tie game scoring with just over a minute to play.

Oxford rallied from a 2-0 halftime deficit getting goals from Chris Parks and Aric Nisbet. “This is unfortunate because we outplayed them in every aspect of the game, but came up short,” said Oxford coach Tim Paden.
