Sherburne-Earlville 2, Canastota 1 (OT)
SHERBURNE – It was a far cry from S-E’s 6-0 opening-game victory over Canastota.
Karli Harris scored with 42 seconds left in regulation to extend the game into overtime, and a Harris crossing pass to Courtney Kurtz ended in the winning goal 3 1/2 minutes into the extra period.
“They have improved a lot, and I told the kids it’s usually tougher the second time you play someone,” said S-E coach Sheila Cooman. “They had us backed up in our circle for a long time in the first half, and I was happy to get away with a 0-0 score.”
The Marauders suffered their most lopsided loss of the season this past weekend to Mt. Markham dropping a 5-0 final. In that defeat, S-E actually held a 15-10 advantage in shots on goal. “They’re a good team, but we made them look great,” Cooman opined. “We couldn’t seem to do anything right, and their goalie did an outstanding job.”
S-E (4-0-1, 7-2-2) hosts New York Mills Wednesday.
