Oxford rides out fast start to victory

OXFORD – Oxford scored three of its four goals in the first half – the first two three minutes apart – to defeat Hancock Thursday.
Kristen Ballard had a pair of goals for the Blackhawks, who tallied at 17:50 and 14:19 for the two-goal lead.
Danielle Murphy and Vanessa Pierson added goals in the win.

Greene 7, Unadilla Valley 0
GREENE – Greene turned the tables on Unadilla Valley in a major way.
Losers to the Storm in overtime (2-1) last month, Greene scored five second half goals in a rout. “They showed up, but they just didn’t play well,” said Greene coach Randy Smith. “There was a little bit of a revenge factor on our minds, but that was a different team than the one that beat us.”
Shelby Averett initiated her first career hat trick tallying the opening goal at the 31-minute mark. Megan McDermott made it 2-0 at the break following up an Autumn Layton shot. Haley Burns had two goals and Layton added a tally for Greene (9-6).

BAINBRIDGE – Missing two of its front line offensive players due to injury and absence, B-G fell short against Delhi in suffering just its second loss to a league opponent this season.
Jean Viafore picked up a loose-ball scramble and tallied unassisted with just 2 1/2 minutes remaining in the game.
The Bobcats were missing Samantha Spalholz, who was out of town, and starting goalie Anna Feltham suffered a pre-game injury that sidelined her for the contest. Starting forward Jen Patten, one of the top two scorers on B-G, moved into the goalie position. “We outshot them and outplayed them, we just didn’t outscore them,” said B-G coach George Williams. “We kicked every ball at their goalies, but to their credit they hung onto all of them.”
B-G plays at Unadilla Valley Wednesday.

NORWICH – The floodgates opened in the second half as M-E strung together five second-half goals within a 21-minute span in Thursday’s win over Norwich.
Joshua Sailar had two goals for the Spartans – both in the second half. “We played a really strong first half, but once they scored their second goal, it was over,” said Norwich coach Hendrik Lowenstein.

NORWICH – Norwich won its fourth match of the season and fired its low score on its home links against Johnson City Thursday.
Playing the par-35 back nine at Canasawacta Country Club, Peter Somich led Norwich (4-8) with a 3-over-par 38. Ryan Cambron added a 42, Ryan Evans and Jacob Kelly turned in matching 43s, while Brian Carson added a 45.
Norwich coach Bob Branham was especially pleased with the scoring, while noting three of his six starters are eighth-graders.
Norwich begins a three-match-in-three-days swing Tuesday at Oneonta.

OXFORD – Oxford (5-4) clinched at least a .500 season getting a sweep at singles to earn at win over Hancock Thursday.
Erica DeWispelaere, Shelby Myers, and Eric LaTourette won in convincing fashion for the Blackhawks, who finish the regular season Oct. 10 against Delhi.
