Lorenz timed a 1:03.85 to break Jill Hawley’s record (1:03.85) set in 1994. Lorenz also won the 100 butterfly. “She has not swam (the backstroke) many times this year, and I did not know what to expect,” said Norwich coach Amanda Downey. “She went after it and got her best time, while also breaking the record.”
