Norwich police hunt for burglary suspect
NORWICH – The Norwich City Police are searching for a man suspected of committing six or more burglaries early this morning. The suspect may be responsible for other recent burglaries in the Norwich area. Police said at least six separate businesses were broken into between midnight and 8 a.m. Friday.
Police Chief Joseph Angelino said, “We seem to have sprees like this about twice a year.”
Police captured an image of the suspect on a surveillance camera at one of the burglarized businesses and have a physical description of the individual. The police pursued the subject this morning and continued to intensively search the Norwich area for the burglar as of presstime this morning.
The subject was encountered fleeing the scene this morning while police were investigating an alarm. The New York State Troopers and the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office are aiding in the search and investigation. The Norwich PD has notified all local police agencies with a description of the subject and are making photographs available. Police are also looking for a tan GMC full-size conversion van that may have been used in the burglaries.
If anyone has any information about these burglaries or the suspect involved, immediately contact the Norwich City Police at 334-2424.
Angelino said he would “advise people to invest in some kind of security system. Surveillance systems for businesses have come down in price and right now that technology is helping greatly with our ongoing investigation.”
