Losers to the Spartans, the Storm showed more effective passing in the second half playing against the wind. Already leading 1-0 at the half, Juston Parks and Andy Hayes added insurance goals.
Since an 0-2 start, the Storm have gone 10-1-1. “The turnaround for us started in practice,” said UV coach Matt Osborne. “We realized we needed to practice harder to play better in games. The seniors have stepped up for us and we’ve been playing well down the stretch.”
UV (10-3-1) is at Walton Monday.

Ernesto Aguirre added one goal and one assist for the Crimson Knights. “Sometimes we look like stars and sometimes we look like a first-year team,” said Afton coach Ron Rapp. “Walton moved the ball well and didn’t give the ball up. They are more seasoned than us, and when you don’t give the ball away, you create more opportunities for yourself.”

S-E plays at Morrisville-Eaton Monday for its first Center State Conference division title.

Peter Somich, who qualified for the Section IV medalist tournament in the spring, birdied the 10th hole en route to a 2-over-par 37. Ryan Evans had a 41 and John Mattingly a 44. The Tornado, who were 1-3 the first half of the season against division opponents won three of four in the second meeting. “For this group, the scores have been outstanding considering their age and experience,” said Norwich coach Bob Branham, who started three eighth-graders out of six players most of the season.
Wednesday, Norwich (6-8) dropped a 204-221 final to Maine Endwell. Evans led Norwich shooting a 38 and Somich had a 39.

Denisa Besilija had 18 kills and six blocks for JC to spearhead the victory. “There were a lot of long volleys the final two games, and I think our kids wore down,” said Norwich coach Paul Sims. “We were not able to finish off points, and Beslija was a big factor for them.”
Mandy Ingraham had nine kills and three aces for Norwich, who play a Oneonta Thursday.
