Greene 89, Sherburne-Earlville 47
GREENE – Greene finished off an unbeaten meet season at 11-0 Tuesday, and set two new school records as it heads into Friday’s Midstate Athletic Conference meet.
Beth Ludwig broke the school mark in diving scoring a 177.05, and the meet-closing 400 free relay saw Lizzy Buhl, Maureen Buck, Sam Clink, and Helen Zaengle chop 2 1/2 seconds off the previous record timing at 4:05.79.
Jayne Vermaat found the winning touch twice – her first two varsity wins – and Alex Viglucci notched her first career varsity win taking the 100 freestyle. “I stacked all three relays hoping to get a record, and one of them came through,” said Greene coach Mike Platta. “Yeah, we could have taken it easy swimming against Sherburne-Earlville versus swimming Delhi, but from day one I’ve told the kids that they are only swimming against themselves, and it doesn’t matter what the other team is doing as long as they swim their best. They’ve kept that in mind, and it’s just been my job to prepare them to swim their best.”
The Trojans host the MAC Championships and seek to finish off a perfect league season.

Delhi 4, Greene 2
DELHI – Delhi made the most of its scoring opportunities sending Greene to a defeat in the Trojans’ final regular-season game.
After Greene’s Shelby Averett tied the game at 2-2, Eva Andrews tucked away the go-ahead goal for Delhi following a collision on a 50-50 ball with keeper Aubrey Parrish. Andrews added an insurance goal late in the game.
“We stopped playing together in the second half,” said Greene coach Randy Smith. “There was too much one-on-one stuff, and we didn’t share the ball. That was the difference in the game.”
Greene is tentatively slated to play at Sus Valley next Wednesday in the first round of the sectional playoffs.
