Greene 3, Unadilla Valley 1
NEW BERLIN – Greene atoned for an early-season loss to Unadilla Valley beating the Storm in what proved to be a tie-breaking contest for the Midstate Athletic Conference division title.
It was the first league title for Greene (13-3-1) in three years, while UV finished in the runner-up position for the second straight campaign. “We did a lot of preparation getting ready for this game,” said Greene first-year coach Rick Tallman. “We were aggressive to the ball, and everybody individually did a much better job marking than they did in the past. I was pretty proud of our defense shutting them down.”
The game was a scoreless tie for 31 minutes until the Trojans scored all three of their goals in a 10-minute span. Devin Shapley scored off a pass from Ben Williams, Williams tacked on goal number two with a penalty kick, and Brad Van Wert tallied off a deflection with four minutes left in the opening session.
Andy Hayes connected on a penalty kick for UV (11-4-1) with 33 seconds left. “We just didn’t play as well, move without the ball well or shoot it well in this game,” said UV coach Matt Osborne. “Greene controlled play a lot more this time, and Williams did a nice job at sweeper for them.”
Greene hosts Windsor Tuesday at 3:30 p.m., while Unadilla Valley plays host to Delhi next Friday.

Otselic Valley 3, Madison 0
SOUTH OTSELIC – Otselic Valley won its second game in as many days, but the late-season victories may have come a little too late for a postseason birth.
“Tonight was a really good game for us, and we could have used a win like this three or four games ago,” said Vikings coach Dave Loomis. “We won the balls at the midfield today, created some good opportunities on offense, and we finished well. We’ve had trouble scoring goals this year, but we were able to put our shots in the right spot tonight.”
Chris Olin had two goals for OV, who led 1-0 at the half, and David Cerasani added the other goal. OV is at McGraw Friday.
