Grid Forecast: Greene faces unbeaten Lansing in playoffs

Bobcat sightings have been on the rise in Central New York, and Greene will get an up-close-and-personal view of about two dozen Bobcats Saturday evening.
The Trojans, playing their first Section IV playoff game since a defeat to Delhi in 2001, face unbeaten Lansing at Binghamton Alumni Stadium at 7 p.m.
It’s the second trip to Alumni Stadium in as many weeks for Greene, who face a club that has not given up a point in 22 quarters. “We’ve played there twice and we’re 2-0,” said Greene coach Tim Paske of the game site. “We don’t have the playoff experience, but we’re comfortable with the surroundings and like playing there.”
The Trojans recently achieved their highest state ranking in school history when the New York State Sportswriters Association placed them at the number 14 spot this past week. Meanwhile, Lansing has the number three spot, and it’s well deserved.
Lansing hasn’t given up a point since a second-period touchdown pass in week three against Spencer-Van Etten. The Bobcats have five straight shutouts, have allowed a Section IV-low 13 points, and average nearly 40 points a game.
Trevor Countryman has 1,187 yards rushing, fourth in the section, to go with 15 touchdowns. Fullback Adam Nedrow averages 11 yards and carry and has five rushing scores. And the passing game doesn’t rate a distant second to the rushing attack. Signal-caller Vincent Redmond has 12 TD passes and completes better than 55 percent of his attempts. Tight end Brian Millman has raked in eight of those TD tosses, and has 14 catches on the season.
“They’re certainly a formidable foe, and they get after you on defense,” Paske said. “In the games we’ve seen, they have controlled the line of scrimmage, and it’s started with their defensive line. They have some quick linebackers, and they get 11 men to the football.”
It is unlikely, though, that Lansing has seen the type of power running game that Greene prefers. Keith Savory’s 800-plus yards and 10 touchdowns heads up the attack behind a veteran offensive line. Quarterback Corey Breck has 10 TD tosses this season, and John Carlin leads the receivers with 13 catches and four TD receptions.
Paske knows his team will need to be on its game, but doesn’t look at his club as a big underdog. “We know they’ll try to come out and punch us in the mouth,” he said. “We have to keep our composure and stick with the game plan. We need to believe in each other and trust we will get the job done. If we play for 48 minutes, who knows what will happen.”
In the other Class C semifinal, Sidney faces Trumansburg.
