Sunday accident shuts down Rt. 12

NORWICH – The New York State Police in Norwich are investigating a motor vehicle accident which was responsible for shutting down traffic on Rt. 12 for over three hours Sunday.
At approximately 3:55 p.m. Sunday, just south of Norwich, Trinity Vasick, 17, of Greene was operating a mini van, heading south on Rt. 12. Anthony Buell, 22, of Sherburne, was heading north, operating a pickup truck with a trailer attached carrying another truck. Vasick was said by authorities to have crossed the median and entered the northbound lane, where a head-on collision took place.
As of 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Rt. 12 traffic was still being detoured away from the scene. The accident reconstruction team was working to clean up the road and Trooper Sergeant Elizabeth Wonka said it was a difficult task to get the two vehicles removed.
Three people involved in yesterday’s accident were airlifted to Wilson Memorial Hospital in Binghamton. Vasick was listed in critical condition; Anthony Buell and his passenger John Buell, 44, were listed in serious condition. The actual cause of the collision is currently under investigation.
“The injuries are quite serious and we are hoping everyone will recover,” Wonka said.
