Unadilla Valley-Edmeston 22, Hancock 14
NEW BERLIN – The Storm found that it was much better to give than to receive.
For the first time in 17 games over the last two seasons, UV-E did the kickoff instead of the receiving. The defense held the visiting Wildcats in check for three quarters, and the Storm offense produced its best game – far and away – this season.
“This is the first game all season where we came out and took control of the game from the first play,” said UV-E coach Jack Loeffler, whose club finishes 2-6.
Tom Giordano rushed for 238 yards and one score, and sophomore running back Eric Bennett had 122 yards rushing and two touchdowns including an 18-yard in the fourth quarter that upped the lead to 22-8.
Hancock’s Chris Hallstead threw TD passes of 99 and 73 yards to Will Young, but through three quarters, the Storm held one of the most prolific passing quarterbacks in Section IV to just 19 yards.
“This is exactly what we wanted, offensively, all season,” Loeffler said, who credited linemen Claude Davis, Justin Peek, Farrell Ruffles, Jake Curtis, Josh Sandell, Pat Fallon and Josh Rifanburg for allowing the backs to rush for 388 yards. “Almost everything was up the middle, and our linemen were knocking them off the line of scrimmage.”
Giordano scored from six yards out in the first quarter for the only tally in the first half, and Bennett raced 55 yards to paydirt in the third giving his club a two-TD lead entering the fourth stanza.
“We’re really excited and the staff is already making plans for next season,” Loeffler said.

Oxford 14, Tioga 12
TIOGA – Oxford took advantage of its limited trips into Tioga’s defensive end to finish with its sixth win of the season Friday night.
Ian Grundner returned the opening kickoff 50 yards deep into Tioga territory, and the Blackhawks scored shortly thereafter on Steve Locke’s 15-yard scoring toss to Ben Burdick.
Tioga rebounded with touchdown runs from Kameron Sowell and Eric Wiseman to grab a 12-7 halftime lead.
Oxford recovered a Tioga fumble in the third quarter at the opposing team’s 40, and marched quickly for the go-ahead touchdown. Locke’s one-yard sneak and Jake Vincent’s second successful point-after kick put a cap on the arithmetic.
Wiseman, one of Section IV’s leading rushers all season, had 35 carries for 142 yards. Oxford, meanwhile, was limited to 175 yards of total offense and passed the ball a season-low two times.
“I know the seniors really wanted to close out with a win,” said Oxford mentor John Curtis. “We weren’t coming off a good week of practice, but we’re happy with the way we played.”
Eric Betts led the Oxford ground game with 89 yards on 12 carries.

Moravia 35, Bainbridge-Guilford 21
BAINBRIDGE – B-G was unable to contain the possession passing game of Moravia and its lefty signal-caller Saturday as the Bobcats finished the season on a three-game losing streak.
Greg Langtry tossed four scoring passes and threw for 224 yards on 26-of-38 attempts to pad his Section IV-leading passing yards total.
Langtry hit Jeremy Stewart on a five-yard scoring pass in the third quarter following a B-G turnover to break a 21-all tie, and added a seven-yarder in the fourth quarter connecting with Ben Shields. Langtry spread out his completions with five different Blue Devils catching at least three passes.
Willie McGinnis scored on two scoring runs in the first half, the second for the B-G senior a 17-yard jaunt that put the host club on top, 21-14. McGinnis finished with a game-high 105 yards rushing. Nate Seymour scored on a 22-yard run early in the second quarter that put B-G (5-4) in front for the first time.
Seymour finished with a season-high 94 yards rushing and Chad Cornish added 71 yards. B-G turned the ball over four times compared to nine for the visitors.
“Neither team’s defense could stop the offense, and it was back and forth in the first half,” said B-G coach Tim Mattingly. “It seemed like every time we got something going in the second half, we shot ourselves in the foot with penalties or turnovers. Langtry was outstanding and we just couldn’t stop him.”
