Maiurano wins another year as mayor
NORWICH – Tuesday, residents of Norwich elected Republican Joseph P. Maiurano to finish the mayoral term he has been filling since the death of Mayor Robert C. Raphael in May. Democratic candidate Michael Carnrike came in a close second, trailing Maiurano by an unofficial tally of 263 votes, and Independent Vince Anthony came in a distant third.
“Now that the elections are over, we can get back to work,” Maiurano said. He said he hopes to work with the residents of the city, addressing their needs. Maiurano hopes more people will take an interest in city government, and get involved.
“This is a tremendous city,” he said, “and we need to be positive in what we do.” Maiurano discussed the need for Norwich residents to support local business, and to “be an advocate of the city.” He thanked everyone who helped him, and acknowledged the work of his competitors, saying, “My hat is off to Carnrike and Anthony. They made me work hard to win this election.”
