WINDSOR – Windsor halted Norwich’s five-game winning streak as a last-second shot by the Purple to tie the game was off the mark.
Norwich produced its second-lowest scoring output of the season and had quarters where it netted just two and six points. “We have a tough time with teams that play good halfcourt man-to-man defense,” said Norwich coach Bob Branham. “They’re a physical team, and we didn’t get a lot of good looks at the basket. We had to rush a lot of shots at the end of the shot clock.”
Norwich’s leading scorers, Alicia Testani and Minda Moore, combined for just 10 points, about 15 points below their season averages. Kala Haltner finished with nine markers to pace NHS (5-2).

SHERBURNE – The Marauders adjusted nicely in the absence of starters Erin Dowdall and Katelin Fitzpatrick to win a non-league matchup Thursday.
Courtney Kurtz scored a game-high 19 points for S-E (5-4), and Adrienne Cross netted 15 points and grabbed 10 boards. “Our sophomores stepped right in tonight and they all did some nice things,” said S-E coach Jeff Barry. “They will have to help us if we want to pick it up down the stretch.”

MORRIS – Afton outscored Morris by nine points in the last stanza to rally for a non-league win Thursday.
Melissa Oswald scored all eight of her points in the last quarter, and Jess Winans chipped in with five of her season-high 19 points to lead the Crimson Knights (3-5).
“Morris shot the ball well in the first half, but we were able to make some good adjustments,” said Afton coach John Simonds. “That was Jess’ best game this season. She took good shots in the flow of the game and didn’t force things.”
Afton plays at Downsville Dec. 29.

BAINBRIDGE – B-G/Afton weathered Windsor’s tough middleweights and won for the fourth time in five matches Thursday evening.
After the first seven matches, B-GA held a slim 16-15 lead entering the lightweights. “Windsor is a well-coached, solid team, and they’ve beaten us three of the previous four years,” said B-GA coach Brandon MacNaught. “They’re one of the best through the middleweights, and for the most part we didn’t give up any extra points. Our lightweights came through for us.”
At 103 pounds, B-GA’s Danny Gormley won by technical fall and Chris Burnett (112) followed that up with a decision win to create a comfortable 10-point lead. Paul Parsons (125) and Kyle Davy (130) added pins to stretch the advantage.
Saturday the Bears host Oxford and Fulton.

S-E girls set three records
EARLVILLE – Sherburne-Earlville’s girls broke two team records, and Morgan Reid established another new record in a 5-0 shutout of Ilion Thursday at Hi-Skor Lanes.
The Marauders’ 884 total in game two broke the previous mark, while the 2,486 three-game total was another new standard. Reid, who has consistently rewrote the record book – erasing her own name – finishing with a 691 series highlighted by a 276 second game in which she had nine strikes.

NORWICH – Despite a season-high 750 series from Chris Ewen, Norwich dropped a 4-3 final to Vestal Thursday.
The Tornado led by six marks entering the seventh frame in game three only to lose the decisive game by 17 pins. Dustin Jenkins tallied a 640 set for Norwich.

“Our kids played a lot harder and we were able to create a lot more offensively than what we have been doing,” said OV coach Dave Loomis.
