Two teens arrested for North Norwich arson

NORTH NORWICH – Police have arrested two youths for arson following an investigation conducted by the Chenango County Sheriff’s office and the Chenango County Bureau of Fire. The Sheriff’s Department arrested two North Norwich youths, one 15 and the other 16, for intentionally staring a fire at an abandoned house on West Cayuga Road, North Norwich. The boys were charged with 3rd degree arson for allegedly entering the house and then using gasoline and matches to set the structure ablaze on Dec. 29.
Norwich fire crews responded to the fire and no one was injured; the house however suffered serious damage.
The 15-year-old youth was issued a juvenile appearance ticket and released into the custody of his parents. The 16-year-old could face more serious consequences and was arraigned in the Town of North Norwich Court then remanded to the County Correctional Facility on $1,500 cash bail.
