SHERBURNE – Sherburne-Earlville closed the game on a 10-1 run and avenged an early-season loss to Waterville in winning its sixth straight game.
Courtney Kurtz had three steals in the last minute converting two into baskets, and Erin Dowdall had a pair of baskets in the final 2 1/2 minutes to contribute to the salvo.
“Our kids stepped it up after the first quarter, and we made plays down the stretch to win the game like we did against Canastota earlier this week,” said S-E coach Jeff Barry.
Dowdall led with 15 points, Kurtz had 13 points and four steals, and Adrienne Cross posted a double-double scoring 10 points and snagging 10 rebounds.
S-E (10-4) plays Sauquoit Valley Tuesday.

ROME – State-ranked Rome Catholic hit 11 three-pointers against the Vikings and seven in the first half to gain a 53-17 edge at intermission.
Madison Slagle had 28 points to lead the winning club and Meredith Merchant tacked on 16. “ They shoot the ball extremely well and we were just overmatched tonight. They play at a different level,” said OV coach Kevin Springer.
Kylie Martin scored 16 points to lead OV, who are at Madison Saturday.

Oxford 46, Norwich 20
OXFORD – Oxford won the first three bouts by first-period pins, and went on to defeat Norwich in a local non-league matchup Thursday.
Victor Pier (152), Travis Frank (160), and Justin Crandall (171) had wins for Oxford, who moved to 9-9 in dual meets this season.
Josh Steward (189) put Norwich on the board with a win by technical fall, and Rick Reihl (125) won by decision.
“We felt there were some pivotal matchups at 125, 140, and 215,” said Norwich coach Terry Hagenbuch. “We felt we needed to win at least two of them. We won just one of them, and the other two lost by pin.”
Prior to the matchup, Oxford senior grapplers Skyler Smith, Ian Grundner, Victor Pier, and Andy Hadlock were honored.

COOPERSTOWN – Sherburne-Earlville grabbed four wins in Thursday’s meet at Cooperstown including bookend victories in the 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay.
“The guys put in a great performance, posting several best times,” said S-E coach George McKay. “As a new team, the progress that they are making is astounding. The team's future looks bright as times continue to diminish.”
