How does your garden grow?

GREENE – A local seed manufacturer is introducing children to the educational benefits of growing flowers, vegetables, herbs, trees and grass as they also try to help a good cause.
For more than 110 years, the Page Seed Company has introduced gardening to generations of young gardeners. Page Seed offers each of its clients customized printing, packaging, storage and shipping services. They can dry-fill and hermetically seal a wide range of their products.
Page Seed believes fundraising is a great way for families to introduce community service and reinforce safety rules. They seems to have found the perfect organization to team up with for their next project – Chenango County 4-H.
The 4-H club prides itself on community service projects and carries an agricultural bond in all efforts they provide, even down to the fundraisers. The Chenango County 4-H Leaders Association and 4-H clubs in collaboration with Page Seed will be selling seeds to gain funding to be able to continue the programming they offer.
Chenango County 4-H’ers will be offering Family Fun Gardens from Page Seed for the next several weeks. Each “garden” is made up of specially chosen seeds. The gardens are reasonably priced and offer the entire family a fun, healthy activity, says 4-H Extension Educator Liz Bunce.
All money earned will remain in Chenango County to support clubs, projects and 4-H member recognition. The 4-H leader’s association supports 4-H members through awards, trips, camp and school scholarships, project materials and various other opportunities.
Each year, Page Seed fills over 30 million units of dry product, provides an average of 10 million custom imprint items to a diverse list of nationally recognized corporations and contributes over $20,000 of vegetable seeds in an effort to stop world hunger.
“The fundraiser is a great way to support two local organizations and to beautify our community,” Bunce said.
Orders will be accepted through Feb. 15 so the Family Fun Garden can be delivered on March 1. Having the gardens delivered in March allows growing to begin indoors.
