Lebanon kicks off bicentennial
LEBANON – A football will not be the only thing getting kicked-off this Super Bowl weekend.
Before the big game begins, local residents are welcome to spend the day at the Town of Lebanon’s opening bicentennial event. Volunteers have spent long hours planning to provide a year’s worth of events and attractions for the whole family to take part in. With over 200 years of history to work with, volunteers say they are ready to get the the celebration started.
The event will be held from 1 to 5 p.m., Feb. 4 at Fun Haven Recreation Center on Lebanon Road. This will launch the town’s 200 anniversary and officials say a big community celebration is a perfect way to do it.
The afternoon is scheduled to provide historical information and entertainment for friends, family, locals and all residents of Madison County are welcome to attend.
Additional volunteers are welcome to join the bicentennial committee, says Town Supervisor Jim Goldstein. Committee members include Deland Niles, Penny Hughes, Emma May Hunter, Patty Grossmann, Tina Finneyfrock and Christine Wilcox. Additional consultation is being provided by Madison County Historian, Madison County Tourism, Fun Haven Recreation Center and Wendy Simcoe of Randallsville.
Goldstein says town residents are encouraged to attend all acticties throughout the year. Funds or items donated to the Bicentennial Committee are most appreciated as are volunteers who are interested in giving historical presentations or hosting an event in their community, he said.
Businesses willing to co-sponsor an event or provide any in-kind service or donation are also needed and welcome.
Funding generated will go towards underwriting the cost of upcoming events each month through the end of the year and a bigger end-of-year celebration.

Coming up also this year will be a baked goods eating contest, historical presentations, unveiling the winning logo, 50/50 raffle, a chicken dinner and much more.
