NORWICH – Binghamton solved Norwich’s full-court pressure and zone defense, and turned up the defense on the Tornado to pull away for a STAC non-division win Monday night.
The Patriots trailed most of the first quarter with Alicia Testani scoring five points and Kyra Collier along with Kala Haltner netting a pair of baskets. Haltner’s hoop with eight seconds put Norwich up 14-12 – its last lead of the game.
The Patriots scored the first seven points of the second quarter, and Cynnetha Bellinger’s three-point play upped the lead to 19-14.
Norwich closed to 25-24 after a layup from Collier; however, the Patriots spurted for six points in the final two minutes of the quarter, four coming from Bellinger.
A dominant third quarter saw a five-point halftime lead rise to 14 with Binghamton finishing the stanza on an 11-1 run.
Bellinger and Brianna Sheppard had 13 points apiece to lead Binghamton.
Norwich (7-8) fell below the .500 mark with Collier scoring 12 points and Testani 11 in the loss. Norwich hosts Johnson City Saturday evening.
