Crash claims life of young Oxford mother

OXFORD – Wednesday morning, the Chenango County Medical Examiner’s Office declared the victim of a motor vehicle accident dead at the scene. Andrea Chouinard, 23, County Road 3, Oxford, was discovered inside her vehicle at around 7 a.m., although police are still investigating the actual time of the accident, which may have taken place much earlier.
Chouinard was traveling south on County Road 32, between Oxford and Norwich, in the Town of Oxford, when she apparently lost control of her two-door sedan. The car crossed the yellow divider and struck the edge of the guardrail, causing it to become airborne. The vehicle then went crashing into the south side of the Chenango River.
“She died instantly, we believe of severe head trauma. She was not wearing her seat belt,” said Deputy Richard Cobb.
The Chenango County Sheriff’s Department is leading the investigation into the accident. The Oxford Fire Department Emergency Squad assisted at the scene. The Sheriff’s Department said they are still investigating the cause of the crash and at approximately what time it took place. Chouinard leaves behind a toddler.
