Great day for a Perch Derby

CHENANGO LAKE – Saturday at Chenango Lake saw one of the best weather days this area has seen in weeks, and the sunshine also brought out hundreds of anglers for the Oxford Lions Club’s Annual Perch Derby. Al Taylor, of Greene, hauled in the largest perch of the day, a 13-incher, while many other anglers vied for the largest one caught during the special 15-minute awards. Although no perch sporting this year’s $1,000 tag was caught, one that was tagged in 2005 was taken, netting the angler a special $50 award. The average size of the four-an-hour winning perch was 11.2 inches.
