Erelli to perform at Earlville Arts Cafe

EARLVILLE – Another spring season at The Arts Cafe at the Earlville Opera House is about to roll, packed with singers, songwriters and other performing artists.
The season gets started right with singer-songwriter Mark Erelli at 8 p.m., March 3. Erelli is an engaging folk artist who makes an occasional foray into the pop genre. He is known to wear his heart on his sleeve, weaving tales of honest and true passion. It is said that passion is what captures audiences and keeps them coming back for more.
With his debut album in 1999, Erelli has since produced five records with his latest one titled “Hope and Other Casualties” produced last year. Over the years Erelli has developed a successful balance of emotion and awareness, all while commenting on the surrounding world. Fluctuating his music between personal life and politics with ease, Erelli compliments his lyrics with folk and rock arrangements with inspiring melodies.
Joe Helm of the Washington Post writes “Politics - social and personal- are at the heart of this gifted New England songwriter’s fifth album. Erelli addressed issues (war, development, love, post 9/11) with the grit of John Hiatt and the melancholy beauty of Ron Sexsmith.”
The spring series continues in the Arts Cafe with Emily Smith of Scotland at 8 p.m., Saturday, April 14. Smith is a former BBC Young Traditional Musician of the year in 2002 who earned a Scots Singer of the year nomination in 2005. Today Smith has two solo releases: “A Day Like Today” in 2002 and “A Different Life” in 2005.
Smith will bring her trio to the Arts Cafe where she will be performing on the accordion and piano accompanied by fiddle and guitar.
A night of humor, insight and melody is expected and tickets are now available for $15 for the general public; $13 for EOH members and $10 for students. The cafe has reserved seating for this performance limited to 50, so call early to reserve a seat. Refreshments will be available in the kitchen including hot and cold drinks and desserts. For more information or to reserve a seat call (315) 691-3550 or go to www.earlvilleoperahouse.com.
