Fuel truck rolls over on snowy roads

NORWICH – Monday morning at around 9 a.m., police and fire crews were called to the scene of a fuel truck rollover. The New York State Police and Preston Fire Department responded to a turned over Blueox fuel tanker that slid down a steep hill and rolled onto its side.
The accident happened on a long driveway on North Road in the Town of Norwich about a quarter mile from County Route 10A. The driver, Kevin McCumber, apparently was unable to stop the truck as he traveled down the long narrow snow-covered driveway. The Preston fire department reported that the tanker was nearly full, carrying thousands of gallons of heating oil and kerosene. None of the material, however, leaked out of the vehicle.
Crews were forced to drill holes in the flipped tanker and begin pumping all the fuel into another Blueox truck. As of noon, crews were still working the scene. No one was reported injured and police said no tickets would be issued.
