The National Weather Service released a wind chill warning last night at around 10:30 p.m. and will continue the advisory until 6 tonight. The report warns of wind chill temperatures possibly dipping as low as 30 degrees below zero throughout the day.
“Some of the coldest air of this winter season is entering the region,” according to the National Weather Service.
Wind will be coming from the northwest between 20 and 30 miles per hour, with gusts possibly getting as high as 40 miles per hour.
Under these conditions it is possible for exposed skin to become frost-bitten within 20 minutes or less. The NWS recommends anyone going outside to wear extra clothing that is capable of resisting wind, particularly a winter hat because more body heat is lost through the head than any other part of the body.
Motorists should also be cautious of large amounts of drifting snow and blowing snow capable of producing temporary whiteout conditions.
