County DPW opens bids for third cell at Pharsalia landfill

PHARSALIA – Chenango County public works officials opened bids Tuesday for a third, 3-acre deep cell at the Pharsalia landfill, now in operation for 13 years.

For general construction, Marcy Excavation Inc. of Utica had the low bid of $2,310,000. Other bidders were Vacri Construction, Inc. of Binghamton at $2,340,000 and Zoladz Construction, Inc. of Alden at $2,692,924.

Four bids for electrical construction were received, with Sherburne-based Bagnall Electric, Inc. coming in the lowest at $48,770. Nelcord Electric, Inc. of Endwell bid $58,900; Vacri Construction, Inc. bid $66,500; and Blanding Electric, Inc. of Vestal, $73,815.

No bids were received for heating and ventilation. Public Works Director Randy Gibbon said the two low bidders would be asked to contract out for that portion of the project.

Marcy Excavation previously built Cell 2 at the county’s main landfill in 2000. Bagnall has completed electrical projects for Cell 1 and Cell 2.
