New Oxford Venue coming soon, files for non-profit status
OXFORD – Ever since the departure of the Night Eagle Cafe, a vacancy has been left in the Village of Oxford. Although the location is still unoccupied, it does however have a name – ‘Six on the Square’ – and a plan for the future. The steering committee for the project says that the non-profit organization may be up and running by early summer.
Local residents have taken it upon themselves to orchestrate a community effort in developing a new entertainment venue for the village. The group is headed by the owners of the site, David and Mary El Emerson. The volunteers who assembled for a series of brainstorming meetings on the future of the performance space elected a steering committee for the project. The committee seats are held by Dave and Mary El Emerson, Victoria Kappel, Nancy Morey, Dave Davis, Maggie Dorsey, Greg LaMonica and Jeanie Petersen. The committee has announced it is in the process of filing for non-profit status.
“After a lot of discussion about what we would like to include and how we would like to grow as a venue, we decided to file for not-for-profit status for Six on the Square. This will enable us to accept donations and grant funding, as well as some other benefits,” said Petersen.
