Council of the Arts hosts Art and Healing Fair Saturday

NORWICH – An Art and Healing Fair will be held at the Chenango County Council of the Arts in Norwich Saturday. The event will feature lectures and workshops to heal your body and your mind.
“Come learn how to get in touch with your inner creativity through lectures and workshops, and meet practitioners that can help your body feel better,” said Deb Whitman of the Arts Council. The fair will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. Donations will be taken at the door.
Throughout the day, workshops and lectures will be given on a wide variety of topics. Jane Coddington, Ph.D., will be discussing the psychology of creativity at 11 a.m. Jackie Gimson will be giving an introduction to stretching and flexibility workshop, also scheduled for 11 a.m. June Georgia, a family coach will be discussing ways to balance your life at noon. At 1 p.m. Nurse Practitioner Karen Adams will explain the ancient, traditional, natural system of medicine in India known as Ayurveda. Susan Miller (Zahira) will be giving a workshop on sacred sound healing, using both vocal music and the crystal-singing bowl to cleanse chakras. Also at 2 p.m., Ellen Sokolow, a Reiki Master, will be giving an introductory workshop to cranio-sacral therapy and the healing art of reiki, a gentle hand-on process of natural healing. Art therapist Lisa Smith will be giving an all day mask-making workshop, to show how art can help you get in touch with your inner-self.
“It’s a great easy way to meet potential body healers,” said Whitman. “We have a lot of people who are very excited about all of the topics.” According to Whitman, three practitioners will be on hand to teach those in attendance about different healing arts. Those in attendance will be Dr. Xiaolei who performs acupuncture, Renee Guidelli of Fairie Dustings a transformational life coach and Canice Paliotta who specializes in massage.
In addition to the lectures and workshops, the gallery will be open throughout the day for anyone interested in seeing “Stories of Healing and Transformation,” a collection of art work made as part of Catholic Charities Expressive Art Therapy Program.
