Six on the Square meeting in Oxford Sunday
OXFORD – The group behind the new entertainment venue Six on the Square will be holding a meeting at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
“Come prepared to listen, give your ideas and thoughts, and then help put together the plans to move forward,” said organizer Nancy Morey.
Local residents have taken it upon themselves to orchestrate a community effort in developing a new use for the former Night Eagle Cafe space in downtown Oxford. The group is headed by the owners of the site, David and Mary El Emerson. Steering committee seats are held by Dave and Mary El Emerson, Victoria Kappel, Nancy Morey, Dave Davis, Maggie Dorsey, Greg LaMonica and Jeanie Petersen. The organization has filed for non-profit status and is waiting for approval.
The committee will meet Sunday at the 6 Lafayette Square location. The meeting is an update of where the project currently is, to get ideas for the future, and what help the group is searching for.
“We have three working committees set up – facilities, programming and membership. If you would like to join any of these, you can do so at the meeting. Remember this is going to be a not-for-profit, volunteer-based venue, so each of you is important to its success,” said Morey.
The committee has been highly active in gathering public opinion for the project and has place a suggestion box on the steps of the building.
The group also announced it was in the process of constructing a website, however at the moment the site only has the name of the organization. To visit the developing site go to www.6onthesquare.org.
The group hopes the non-profit organization may be up and running by early summer.
