Sheriff's deputies nab suspected drug dealer
OXFORD – The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested an alleged drug dealer Tuesday afternoon after a three-month investigation. Corey A. Weidman, 22, Merchant Street, Oxford, was arraigned in Chenango County Court, charged with three counts of 3rd degree criminal sale of a controlled substance (a Class B felony) and one count of 3rd degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. (a Class B felony).
At the time of his arrest, Weidman was on probation for a prior felony drug conviction of criminal possession of a controlled substance.
The Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, C-Net Narcotic Unit and Oxford Police Department executed a “no-knock” search warrant at Weidman’s residence. Police discovered approximately one ounce of processed cocaine with a street value of about $1,500. Police also confiscated an illegally-owned .22 caliber revolver handgun, a switchblade knife and assorted drug paraphernalia.
In court, Special Prosecutor James H. Fertig asked for bail to be placed at $1 million, saying, “Because of the severity of the charge, your honor, there is a good chance he may flee, and because of the charge, we are going to be asking for an extremely high bail. In fact we would ask that no bail be set.”
The court remanded Weidman to the Chenango County Correctional Facility in lieu of $500,000 cash bail. Police said further charges were pending.
