Police make arrest in Norwich woman's disappearance; Daniel Brown Sr. charged with murder
The Norwich Police Department in conjunction with the Chenango County District Attorney, Joseph McBride assisted by the Chenango County Sheriff and the New York State Police have charged Daniel L. Brown Sr., 45, of 56 Henry St Norwich with murder in the 2nd degree a Class A-1 felony.
Brown was charged after a brief but intense investigation into the disappearance of Norwich resident Tammy L Periard. Periard’s body was located by police early Thursday morning during the execution of a search warrant issued by County Court Judge W. Howard Sullivan.
Police declined to release any details only to say that Brown caused the death of Periard.
“First I must offer my condolences to the family of Tammy Periard, they were in contact with me personally throughout this ordeal” said Chief Joseph Angelino. The family of Ms. Periard reported Tammy missing to authorities Tuesday at noon. Norwich Police assisted by several other law enforcement agencies searched all night Tuesday after locating Periard’s vehicle at a parking lot near the intersection of Rexford Street and Lee Avenue. Police continued their search efforts all day Wednesday on the ground and in the air with a New York State Police helicopter.
Simultaneously several investigators followed up on leads called in by the public. Police would not say what lead them to Daniel Brown Sr. as a suspect, but would confirm that he was a tenant in an apartment house managed by Periard. “I am pleased with the investigation that was conducted, investigators worked very closely with DA Joe McBride. At this time I can not speak of any specifics of this crime because many leads are being investigated and other people may still be involved,” said Angelino. Currently Daniel Brown is being held in the City Police lock up awaiting arraignment at 9 a.m.
“I would hope that anyone with further information about this would continue to call us,” Angelino said. Police still maintain a Command Post at the Norwich Police Station, the telephone number there is 334-1212. “I am very proud of all the law enforcement personnel who worked so diligently, I’m only sorry that it turned out the way it did,” said Angelino.
