Airport activity reported
NORWICH – There were 1,192 take offs and landings at the Lt. Warren E. Eaton/Chenango County Airport in North Norwich last year, the majority of which were planes operated for Procter & Gamble Pharmaceuticals.
Flight instruction at the airport accounted for 142 take offs and landings. Corporate jets using the airport include P&G with 386, New York Central Mutual with 190, and Lockheed Martin with 160. Smaller companies, such as Baillie Lumber, E Tetz & Son, South Fork Asphalt, Grow & Bloom Alternative Heating and Therma Tron X accounted for double digit numbers.
“There are a lot of companies going in and out of the airport. And, a lot have indicated that they wouldn’t be doing business here if we didn’t have the facility,” Airport Administrator Don W. MacIntosh told members of the Chenango County Planning & Economic Development Committee Tuesday.
A total of 42 entities used the runway last year.
“This is one of our hidden resources that doesn’t receive enough attention,” Committee Chairperson Linda E. Natoli, R-City of Norwich, said.
The Committee received a report from NBT Bank officials in charge of administering and investing the Chenango County Warren E. Eaton Jr. charitable trust. Given by Lt. Eaton in 1986, the trust is meant to keep the airport operating into perpetuity.
