Horse owner arrested for animal cruelty
LINCKLAEN – The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man from the Town of Lincklaen on several counts of cruelty to animals. Barry Crandall, 52, Lincklaen, has been charged with cruelty to animals for allegedly owning 11 horses that were malnourished and in need of food, water and shelter.
Wednesday afternoon, sheriff’s deputies executed a search warrant at Crandall’s residence, 772 Freeman-Wothe Road, and discovered the animals. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted in the seizure and removal of the 11 horses by members of the Equine Rescue Resource Incorporated, New York state Horse Council and the Chenango County Horseman’s Association, said Sergeant Richard Cobb.
The Sheriff’s Office was also assisted in the investigation by Jockeyport Veterinary Services of Afton, which provided a medical evaluation of the animals.
The Equine Resource Rescue has temporarily placed the horses at several locations for care pending the conclusion of the investigation. Crandall was released and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
