Baldwin Associates finishes perfect season, wins first CBL title
NORWICH – Leigh Baldwin & Associates completed the first unbeaten season in the YMCA Men’s Corporate Basketball League in over a decade beating Burrell’s/Parker’s for the fourth time this season, 63-31, Monday night at the Norwich YMCA.
LBA went on an early 8-0 spurt to lead 10-2, and stretched its lead to 32-13 by halftime. Eric Poiesz scored 19 points in the first half helping his club finish the first half on a 16-4 spurt. “Our defense was pretty decent in the first half, and I thought that was a big factor,” Poiesz said.
The 6-foot-10 center finished with just four points in the second half, but none of them were needed.
Parker’s/Burrell’s slashing drives to the basket were nullified by a two-three zone and Poiesz’s presence at the back end of the zone.
Scott Brown scored 10 points in the second half, and LBA grew its lead to as many as 33 points in what was by far the most lopsided of the four meetings this season. “Our size advantage made all the difference,” said Tom Revoir of LBA. “We were able to pass the ball inside and out to create scoring opportunities.”
