GREENE – Greene jumped on Unadilla Valley’s pitching in the first inning of a Wednesday doubleheader, and never let up in a sweep of the Storm.

The Trojans (9-4) sent 15 batters to the plate in the first inning scoring nine runs. Lead-off hitter Mike Porter had two hits in the inning, drove in two, and scored two runs on his way to a 5-for-6 day at the plate. “We had a couple soft hits, but I felt the kids deserved them,” said Greene coach Dave Gorton. “Against Sidney we hit the ball hard right at people, and this time they just found the holes.”

Don Amell had four hits and team-high five RBI, while Corey Breck and Nate Whittaker finished with matching 3-for-5 days at the plate. Breck pitched five innings for the victory.

Matt Potter went 3-for-4 for UV.

In the nightcap, the Trojans scored in every inning to support winning pitcher Keith Savory. Savory was his own best helper finishing 3-for-3 on the day. Breck added three hits and three ribbies, and Porter completed a stellar day with two hits and three more RBI. “Our pitchers threw a lot of strikes today, and we only had one guy who drew a walk over the first 12 innings that ended up scoring,” Gorton said. “We turned three double plays in the two games and we made a lot of pretty plays on defense. The kids were motivated and excited all day.”
