Morris 15, G-MU 9
COPES CORNERS – Morris jumped out to a 7-0 lead before G-MU got on the board, and the Mustangs’ seven-run sixth inning put the game out of reach Wednesday.
Bryant Holmes hit a two-run single in a four-run first inning, and after the Mustangs nibbled for three more runs, took advantage of numerous G-MU mistakes to score seven more. Matt Joyce’s two-run single capped the frame. “As it turns out, we could have easily been out of that inning (the sixth) with no damage,” said G-MU coach Jim Johnson. “We made some errors and poor mistakes of where to throw the ball.”
Luke Acanfora ended G-MU’s seven-run sixth inning with a two-run double, and eighth-grader Corin Todd paced the Raiders with three hits. Cody Hall and Tim Sloan finished with two hits apiece.

GREENE – A fast start and strong finish allowed Greene to hold off Delhi’s upset bid Wednesday.
Don Amell, Keith Savory, Dan Carlin, and Nate Whittaker all had ribbies in the first inning, then the scoring button was turned off until late in the game.
After Delhi pulled to within 5-4 in the sixth, Dan Carlin hit an RBI single and Justin Van Wert added a two-run sacrifice fly to end the arithmetic. “Delhi played a strong game against us, but we gutted it out,” said Greene coach Dave Gorton. “We had a couple of guys under the weather, but when we needed big plays, we kept getting the runs.”
Don Amell pitched six innings for the win and Keith Savory tossed a scoreless seventh. Carlin went 3-for-4 with two RBI, while Amell and Whittaker each finished 2-for-4.

Locke led with three his and two RBI, and Trevor Nelson went 2-for-5. “It was a good game right up to the sixth inning,” Rice said. “They came up with some clutch hits.”

The Tornado committed errors in the first, fifth, and sixth innings, all of which was parlayed into six SV runs. “We really hurt ourselves on defense, and they did a nice job defensively,” said Norwich coach John Martinson. “We also made two errors running the bases, and that does not show up in the box score.”
Mike Chantry went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI for SV.
Shane Thompson led Norwich with three hits, two stolen bases, and an RBI. Mike Moon contributed a 2-for-3 day at the plate.

The Marauders loaded the bases, and with one out and the infield pulled in, Drew Doscher lined a single to right field to score Ethan Sconzo. “We’ve been so close against them and we finally got one,” said S-E coach Brian Hicks.
Caleb Brown worked 6 2-3 innings for the Marauders and Sam McLain recorded the final out of the seventh to eventually earn the win. “Brown pitched unbelievable for us and his curveball was just great,” Hicks said of his sophomore hurler. “It’s tough for him to not get the win, but he got the game ball.”
Dustin Brooks and McLain had two hits, while Doscher added two RBI to his two-hit day.

COPES CORNERS – Morris overcame a six-run deficit in the first inning to prevail at G-MU Wednesday.
Kimmy Collison led the Mustangs with four hits and three RBI, and the visitors took the lead for the first time in the sixth inning scoring four runs. “Late in the game our pitcher started to tire,” said G-MU coach Tina Cole. “She had control problems and they had a couple of hits.”
Sierra French hit a two-run double to highlight the Raiders’ six-hit, six-run first inning. The well went dry the next five frames until a single tally in the seventh. “We just didn’t find the holes after the first inning, and their left fielder, Victoria Galbreath, made some nice plays on the ball,” Cole said.
Ashlea Osborne, Brandy Welch, and Kirsten Gonzalez had 2-for-4 days at the plate to lead G-MU.

Katrina Benson finished 3-for-3 with RBI hits in the second and sixth innings. Caree Acre also had three hits and scored two runs. Hannah Johnson and Leslie Barnes chipped in with single ribbies. “We finally started hitting the ball and we were really aggressive on the bases tonight,” Backus said.
