Sherburne welcomes 58th Pageant of Bands
SHERBURNE – The streets of Sherburne will be filled with music and people this weekend for the 58 annual Pageant of the Bands Competition. With over 35 area bands competing this year, the pageant is sure to have something for everyone.
“It’s exciting for the kids to be able to come to a pageant of this size and perform for an audience of this size,” said Sherburne-Earlville Band Director Jeff Manwaring.
The pageant weekend began Thursday with the jazz ensemble competition. The junior competition, C-class and D-class competitions were held on Thursday. The jazz ensemble competition continues Friday, with the B, A, AA, and AAA classes’ competitions being held starting at 4 p.m. The color guard / winter guard competition will also be held on Friday. The competition will begin at 7 p.m. in the high school (old) gym.
“Saturday is the big day,” said Manwaring. The concert bands will perform at 9 a.m. The junior high bands will perform in the cafeteria, the D class in the middle school (new) gym, the C class will be in the high school gym, B class will be in the band room, A class will be in the auditorium, AA class will be in the high school gym and AAA class will perform in the new gym.
The parade will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday. “It’s a unique parade. If you’ve been to any other parades, you see a lot of tractors and trucks and maybe two bands. Here you’ll see lots of bands and maybe a couple of trucks. It’s a big difference,” said Manwaring.
At 2 p.m., the cadence competition will begin at the school stadium, featuring all of the drum lines.
The event will conclude with the announcement of the weekend’s top bands at the award ceremony, which will be held at 4:30 p.m., at the S-E stadium.
Between 8,000 and 10,000 spectators generally make the trip to Sherburne for the pageant. “It’s the chance for everyone to come out and perform and have a great time enjoying everyone else’s performance as
